Many patients don’t realize how much their daily lifestyle choices affect their overall health and well-being.”

”Chronic diseases can often be prevented—and in some cases reversed—through a science-based Lifestyle Medicine approach to healthcare.

Dr. Aimee Zullo, MD

I am a board-certified cardiologist and lifestyle medicine physician with a focus on preventive cardiology. Early in my career, I realized that while our healthcare system excels at treating disease, it often falls short when it comes to restoring and promoting health - our healthcare system is in fact a “sick-care” system. I watched my patients carefully follow guideline-based recommendations, yet still gradually decline. That moment of clarity sparked a powerful belief that true healing required more than prescriptions and medical procedures alone —and set me on a mission to pursue a more holistic approach to patient care.

In 2018, a back injury at the gym unexpectedly changed my own health journey. As I recovered, I discovered the powerful benefits of a whole-food, plant-based diet. Research like The China Study helped me understand how strongly our daily food choices impact long-term health—and how the typical American diet can drive chronic disease, and a whole food plant based diet can help the body heal and thrive. The results surprised even me. My injury healed quickly, my energy and sleep improved, and my strength and endurance soared. By age 40, I was fitter than I had been as a college athlete. I was getting sick less often, recovering faster, more energized and simply feeling better.

Motivated by my personal health revolution, I began bringing these principles into my cardiology practice, helping patients use nutrition, movement, and other healthy habits to take control of their health.

I pursued formal training in plant-based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, and discovered the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) - a medical specialty focused on treating the root causes of chronic disease through six powerful healthy lifestyle pillars (eating mostly plant-based foods, staying physically active, getting quality sleep, managing stress, avoiding harmful substances, and nurturing meaningful social connections). After studying the science behind these lifestyle approaches to prevention and management of chronic disease, I became board certified in Lifestyle Medicine through the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM) in 2020.

Today, my medical practice takes a more holistic approach using the six pillars of lifestyle medicine to help patients prevent heart disease, feel better, and live healthier, more vibrant lives, often with fewer medications and more confidence in their ability to heal.
